Regeneration

April 23, 2008

I recently added a few blogs to my reciprocal links section, and in doing so I came across this great picture (click the image to enlarge it).

For more on regeneration, and specifically the Calvinist teaching about it, click here.

Hey, I used to be Calvinist. I also used to be Independent Fundamental Baptist.

Heck, I got my bachelor of arts from Bob Jones University.

Now I’m an indie rock artist. Go figure.

Okay, not to knock theology, because it’s certainly a noble (if not the noblest) pursuit, but don’t we often develop a tendency to forget to live the life?

I saw this happen time and time again in my own life. I’d get into deep theological debates about anything from justification as eternal “starting now” to “What kind of music does God appreciate?”

It’s great and all, but if this pursuit of studying God takes me away from my pursuit of being like him, I want to have nothing to do with it. For me it’s a sin.

    Nate,

As in everything, we must avoid extremes, and not jump to the opposite extreme. Theology can be dry, dead, stifling and boring. It can sap life from you.

But it doesn’t have to. In fact for many, it kindles the fire of a vibrant relationship with God.

Stressing over tons of legal questions on what is and isn’t permissible can be distracting. But a heart that loves God would want to please Him, and like it or not, we have to exercise discernment in this life.

I’m glad you dropped by, and I hope if you scan through the articles here, that you won’t be turned off by a “better-than-thou’ approach or a “know-it-all” disregard for other Christians with differing views.

The Gospel is the most important thing, and I believe the Calvinist doctrine frees us to understand it in all its glory. If you aren’t Calvinist, that’s fine. I hope you embrace the Gospel more than anything else.

    Blessings in Christ,

    Bob
