Sir, I realized that modern fundamentalism is
not just a Baptist phenomenon. There are also
fundamentalists from some separatist denomina-
tions of Presbyterian and Methodis persuasion.
I think this one would be a good topic to
discuss.
I find this blog very useful given the fact
that many Christians here in my country are
of Fundamental Baptist persuasion, either by
decision or by ignorance. Kee up the good
work!
Albert,
Thanks for stopping by. Glad the site is useful. What country are you in?
I do know the problems of strict fundamentalism occur among the conservative pentecostals, rigid Reformed/Presbyterian types, and others. You are right about that, and I’ve had a few comment. A blogging pal of mine, Rhett Kelly was in a extreme fundamentalist pentecostal situation for years, I believe.
Perhaps we will address this in a post some time. Again thanks for your thoughts.
May God richly bless you in Jesus,
Bob Hayton
Bob,
I recommended your blog to a Calvinist friend.
He was also from a Fundamental Baptist church.
He left that church because of its legalisms
and recommended your blog to his Fundamental
Baptist friends.
Anyway, I am from the Philippines. I spent my
grade school and high school years in a
Fundamental Baptist school. It gets support
from Fundamental Baptists somewhere in New
Jersey. I am now in college but
my sisters are still studying there. I get
regular updates from them about the situation
of the school and have found out that those
Baptists are increasingly becoming less and
less Fundamentalist. For instance, they are
now singing Hillsong music. That’s something
David Cloud wouldn’t like! I also heard that
they had some form of cooperation with other
“Neo-Evangelical” churches.
I didn’t know that there is also strict funda-
mentalism among conservative Pentecostals.
What’s that all about? I’ll check out your
friend’s blog about that. The only thing I
know about Pentecostal extremes is the over-
emphasis on experience at the expense of
doctrine.
Any views of tithing our pastor says we are sinning if not tithing, I dont see anything under new covenant commanding tithing, I go to a IFBC
Hello!
How are you?
If you can give 10% of your income that is great and my God bless the person that does. I really don’t think it is a New Testament command. we read in 2 Corinthians 9:7 “Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver.” Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Jason, I side with you. The attempts to make tithing a requirement for believers, forget that tithing was a tax in a society where the people/government supported the temple.
This is not to downplay giving. We should give abundantly and sacrificially. But coercing people to give based on the 10% “requirement” produces those who give “grudgingly and of necessity”, when God does love “cheerful givers”.
Hi all!
And What parental control soft do you prefer?
G’evening
Greetings in Christ,
Warning–basic and child-like question going to be asked here:
Can someone tell me the differences (from a reformed perspective) between doctrine and theology?
K. Noble,
Doctrine literally means teaching. Theology is technically the study (logos or logy) of God (Theos). So they overlap. The Doctrine (or teaching of God = Theology. Theology is also a broad category covering all religious teaching. Ecclessiology literally is the study of the church, or the doctrine of the church. But it is still considered theology, broadly.
Hope that helps, some.
Bob
